Claude Opus 5 (24 July 2026) is Anthropic's thoughtful, proactive daily-driver model — it comes close to the frontier intelligence of Claude Fable 5 at HALF the price, and sets a new state-of-the-art on coding and knowledge work (Frontier-Bench, GDPval-AA). It's the new default on Claude Max and the strongest model on Claude Pro. Same price as Opus 4.8 for roughly twice the intelligence.
Best for
- Everyday serious coding, agents and professional work at frontier-ish quality
- Long-running, self-correcting AI agents (detects and fixes its own errors mid-task)
- Computer use (SOTA on OSWorld 2.0) and novel problem-solving (ARC-AGI-3)
- When you want near-Fable 5 quality at Opus speed and cost
How it compares — and the India angle
- The value story: near Fable 5 intelligence at $5/$25 per 1M (half of Fable 5's $10/$50) — for Indian teams this is the sweet spot for hard work without the Fable price.
- Adaptive effort: dial effort down for cheap/fast routine tasks, up for deep work; it also uses ~26% fewer tokens on average.
- Anthropic's most aligned/safest model to date; it stays behind Mythos 5 on cybersecurity and biology by design. Cutoff: May 2026.
