What is Claude Code?
Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool. Instead of suggesting one line at a time, it reads your codebase, edits files across the project, runs commands and tests, and explains what it changed — from the terminal or inside VS Code, Cursor and JetBrains IDEs.
It is included in every paid Claude plan and shares that plan's usage limits: Pro at $20 a month ($17 a month billed annually), and Max at $100 or $200 a month for heavier use. Developers who outgrow a plan can switch to pay-as-you-go API billing.
It runs on Anthropic's current models — Claude Sonnet 5.5 for everyday work and Opus 5.5 for harder, open-ended tasks — so its quality tracks the model line-up rather than a fixed version.
For Indian developers the practical question is cost: there is no rupee plan, so the price is in US dollars plus GST and card fees. Pro is enough to learn on; teams doing hours of agentic work a day usually end up on Max or the API.
