Claude Duet: Anthropic's AI Agent That Messages You First
Anthropic's new research preview watches your connected apps, prepares a morning brief and asks before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything. What it does, who can get it, and when India might.
Claude Duet: Anthropic's AI Agent That Messages You First
Most AI assistants wait for you to type. Claude Duet, which Anthropic opened as a research preview on 21 October 2026, doesn't. It watches the apps you connect, sends you a brief each morning and messages you when something needs a decision. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5, and for now it is only for US Pro and Max subscribers on a waitlist, so it isn't available in India.
What it does
Every morning it prepares a list of what needs your attention across your connected apps, and it checks them every few hours during the day, not continuously, to save your usage. It runs on a cloud computer, so it keeps working after you close the app. Anthropic's own examples include spotting a calendar clash before a flight, chasing unpaid invoices in QuickBooks or Stripe, preparing payroll in Gusto and drafting a job post.
It asks before anything important
Duet reads, drafts and prepares work on its own. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you the action and waits for your approval. Trading securities and moving money between accounts are off-limits even with approval. Anthropic says it never sees your passwords or sign-in tokens, and a separate check blocks sharing card numbers and government ID numbers.
Who can get it
| Detail | |
|---|---|
| Countries | US only for now |
| Plans | Claude Pro and Max, not Team or Enterprise yet |
| How | Waitlist, with invites in waves |
| Where | Standalone app on iOS and Android, and on claude.ai |
| Price | No extra charge in the preview, but background work uses your plan's limits |
What Anthropic admits it can't do yet
It can misread a thread or judge urgency wrongly. Personal errands like booking tickets are less developed. You can't watch its browser yet, and Microsoft 365 isn't supported.
What it means for India
There is no India date, so for now the closest options are ChatGPT's agent features in ChatGPT Work and Claude's own app with connectors. What I'd watch is the approval design: an agent that works unprompted but must ask before money or messages leave your account. After CERT-In's warning about AI agents, that choice matters more than the feature list.
